My friend in Seoul got married, so, I went to join her wedding ceremony last month, which is also my first time to be in Seoul.

My schedule:

08th, June,          morning,             Shanghai to Seoul

Afternoon,           Gyeongbokgung Palace and Folk Museum

09th, June,          morning,             Mountain Nantan Park

                            Noon,                Friend's wedding ceremony, (13:00 – 14:40)

                            Afternoon,           HyeHwa area

10th, June          Morning,              Han River

Afternoon,           HongIk University area and Anguk

11th, June,           noon,                  Seoul to Shanghai

Since I don’t stay long in Seoul, so, I did not expect anything before I go. However, I enjoyed the trip quite much.

The first 11 photo folders are all what I took in Seoul. Within them, one folder is with my strong recommendation: Anguk Area:

 Highlight:

1\ beautiful scenery

in Seoul, you could see the green, mountains, here and there. I also like the ramps very much.

Especially, the scenery from airport to downtown is quite beautiful, for there’re many different shapes' of nature, e. g. mountains, sea, red earth, golf courts, broad lands, etc.

Only very pity, I did not plan to go to Bukhansan National park for I thought it is very far at the beginning. You might consider next time, one day should be fine.

2\ nice people, except 2 I met, most are all very very nice

Sample 1: 3 young girls, around 15-17 years’ old.

It takes 3 girls around 10 minutes to take me to one recommended restaurant of my guidebook, and they called the restaurant 3 times!!

In usual, I won’t like the noisy girls like them, but now, I feel happy for them, for our Asian people do not smile, do not laugh much. Hopefully our next generation would lead a much lighter life than us, to smile more, to laugh more.

Sample 2:  two receptionists.

Receptionist A is a young, slim guy, Korean looking with naughty smiling.

He is very patient to answer my questions, and when I went to check out, receptionist A is very happy to tell me the mineral water, juice are all free of charge.

He looks happy for me from heart, not for complimentary.

Receptionist B is a middle aged, serious looking guy.

Since I saw that city tour bus is not running after 01st, May, so, I would like to have him to check for me whether the city bus tour for Ganghwa Island is running.

I was very surprised to find out he is not only find out this, but 3 more pieces of information relevant for traveling in Ganghwa Island.

He wrote a long long memo for me in handwriting, not the copy of the fax, not the pamphlet.

All, maybe you could consider to go next time, Incheon Ganghwa Island tour, it only costs around 10 US$ per person, two routes for you to choose, 1000 ~ 18:00, 8 – hour tour.

But it only runs every Saturday, you could contact (032) 440 – 4055 to find out details. If it is organized by travel agency, it costs you around US$ 140 per person. I guess the difference is because there would be one guide be with you and you don’t need to go to Incheon to join the trip.

The last day, after checking out, I went out the hotel. When I was waiting for taxi, B rushed out of the hotel to say “Safe Journey” to me, making me feel very guilty. I should wait till B is back to the reception desk to say goodbye to him first, then to leave.

In my Chinese writing, I list 4 positive samples with 2 negative samples.

3\ energetic Seoul

Please refer to my photos, especially the folders of "Anguk", "HyeHwa area", "AD In Seoul", "HongIk University".

In HyeHwa area, you could see the students are trying best to sell the drama tickets, to give passerby the pamphlets relevant to drama, to paste the posters not only on the wall, but also on the ground!

You could strongly feel the passion of the future of the Korea.

Only kind of pity is the market near HongIk University is not as interesting as the guide book described.

There’s one free market named rainbow which opens every weekends’ afternoon, I assumed there’re many interesting stuffs handmade by the students in HongIk University, however, it does not. Photos in HongIk University folder looks not bad though..

4\ beautiful AD

I like the AD in Seoul, though, for the most of the one, I don’t know what they are talking about. I’m also very glad to see that most of the AD are local brand instead famous international brand.

5\ oriental beauty

I don’t understand Korean charaters though, sometimes, some of the Korean charters written in art way look very beautiful. Some small lanes, quite with the background of the mountain, makes me feel the calm.

You could try to walk more in Anguk area, to feel teh oriental beauty by yourself.

Some of the Chinese names are also very poetic. Some places' names; some Chinese restaurants' names; some small shops’ names. Very oriental, reminds me back to the old time in the book, in the poetry…

This kind of beauty is not the foreigners could enjoy, nor I could find out when I travel in Europe , US.

But sure, All, there’re also something I did not expect before I go.

1\ wedding ceremony

The whole ceremony is western style which surprised me very much.

But it is very touching for sure, especially the moment the couple exchanged the ring; saying “I would”; especially the groom speaks very loud, I think he loves very very much!

I was also moved very much when bride’s younger sister and two other girls was singing a song, with simple melody. 3 girls dressed in white, sang slowly, looks like the angels. They couldn’t help me feeling that I were at the heaven, lying above the floating the white clouds; the light scent of the flowers in the earlier morning were around me; with the sound of slowly flowing water in the brook…

2\ food

It is inevitable for Korean to enjoy beef much for it is extremely cold in Korea, in winter. Only maybe I did not know how to order the rest, I hope I could have chance to eat the food ordered by Korean people next time.

3\ gap

I did not realize the huge gap between the Korean people before, for what I know is that the GDP per capita of Korea is $ 24,130 in 2006.

The saddest scene is that I saw an old lady in the subway, skinny, clean dressed, the face could even called elegance. But she was couching, with a small bowl before her, several coins in it…

Besides that, you could also find out that there’re many people selling in the subway cabins and stations, but just from them, you could strongly feel they strive to lead a better life.

It is also interesting that no matter for rain coats or paper fans, passengers bought them in the cabins.

All, more to write though, overall speaking, I’m glad I could join my friend’s wedding ceremony to meet with her husband, in person; to witness her important moment; to give her best wishes face to face.

I’m also happy that I could manage to see the best of every place I travel even if I only have a very limited amount of time.

Finally, all, though Korea is not China, I still hope you could have some images for Seoul, one of the important cities in Asia.

Joyce

PS: after I post my article to my blog, one people said against me for the data of GDP Per Capita, what I found out is US$ 24,130, but he mentioned that should be US$ 15,731.

All, please feel free to let me know if you know the correct data.

Thank you.

Cheers, Joyce
